Barbie Birthday Decorations
One of our favorite traditions is a themed birthday party! Zia’s 6th birthday party was mermaid themed – it was a total SPLASH! We had so much fun at the pool (luckily the weather cooperated) that we thought we’d restart our pool party this year.

Zia’s favorite toys are her Barbie dolls. He insists on taking them EVERYWHERE (store, park… When they go, they go). With the Barbie core becoming more and more popular (thanks to the upcoming Barbie movie), we thought we’d put it all together
The week before the party was dedicated to designing every detail. We spoke with each of our clients to confirm their availability and schedule. We also made a ‘mock up’ to really determine where we would place all our decorations. We took pictures of each location so we could recreate them for the party. Anything and everything can be prearranged and placed the day before the party.
Done before the party. It really cut down the schedule for the day which gave me more time to work on my daughter’s hair and get ready!
Each location or activity provides an opportunity to accentuate or expand on the theme of the party. Food is a big part of the theme – our menu reflects the kind of food you might find at the beach or pool (hotdogs, nachos, pretzels – served in a pink DIYed barbie display – fied and churros).
Barbie Balloon Party Decorations
Yes, we still included the classic cake and cookies, but thanks to the amazing work of Sugar Shaker Bakery, including all the colors, branding, and ~vibes~ seen in our pitch. Can you believe the information on the airwaves?! All we have to do is add a cute little Barbie.
Meal planning is very important. We used yards of silk fabric to coordinate with our color scheme to cover the boxes we used to make the tops. We also incorporated organic flowers and created custom food stamps on our Cricut machine.
Barbie Boutique was my favorite of the party. Visitors could choose their own Barbie and fill a special bag with goodies. Some of the Barbie boxes and signs were gifts from Mattel, while other goodies (bags, glasses, hair clips, etc.) were purchased online or in stores. We also bought jewelry and accessories from stores like Dollar Tree, Walmart, Target, and Joannes.
Then there was the Barbie beauty station where guests could have their faces painted, temporary tattoos applied and make up and nails done – it was a huge hit!
Barbie® Birthday Party
The party was very boring. The kids couldn’t get enough of the bounce house and the line for the face painter was so long it filled my entire living room! Zia also had a good time. She loved taking pictures with her friends in the Barbie Box (made by Austin Balloon Co.) It was definitely the best birthday party I’ve thrown for Zia. I think that all the hard plans, even if they seem like it, really worked. Our team is getting better every year. Can’t wait to see what this next year brings! It is the time of love. I love Valentine’s Day and celebrating the loved ones in life. It’s also nice to have a reason to celebrate another happy holiday in the fall of winter. I love making tea bags for my kids every chance I get. Not only do they play with them year round, but I love the imagination and play they get out of them. I just love arranging them. I like projects because they all use the same supplies, and when you have everything to yourself, you can do more and more. For this rod I used pretty much anything I had on hand and just bought the actual rod.
Here’s how to make your own heart. This project is very simple and can be installed anywhere you want. Paint the rod any color and let dry. Grab your module and start painting where you want to add your sparkle. Drizzle over the frosting or whatever you’re using. Add more modules on top and keep layering until you get the look you want. You can push the glitter down to make sure it’s secure. Once everything is dry, you can either coat it with a clear coat to seal it or leave it as is. Tie a ribbon or yarn around the dowel and that’s it!
